Alysha Newman, born on June 29, 1994, in London, Ontario, is a Canadian pole vaulter and the 2024 Olympic bronze medallist in Paris. She won the 2018 Commonwealth Games and holds the Canadian record with a jump of 4.85 meters. Initially a gymnast, she switched to pole vaulting after a serious back injury in her teens. By age 15–16, she was already setting records and competing internationally while studying at the University of Miami and Eastern Michigan University. Newman has competed in three Olympic Games (2016, 2020, 2024), achieving a historic bronze medal in 2024—the first Olympic medal for a Canadian woman in pole vaulting.
